Along with students from John S. Burke High School in Goshen, the trip was organized by Ms. Megan Barrett of Engineering Tomorrow. At the site, the students met with Mr. Andy O’Rourke and Mr. Dan Marcy from the Tappan Zee Bridge Authority, who gave the students a presentation of the design and construction of the two new spans. The students then proceeded to a viewing platform at the river for a close-up view of the bridge.

Offered to students in grades 10 -12, OLL’s Intro to Engineering course exposes students to some of the major branches of engineering. They have an opportunity to investigate engineering and high-tech careers and to develop skills and understanding of course concepts by employing engineering and scientific principles in the solution of engineering design problems.   Emphasis is placed on principles of professionalism, ethics, teamwork, and problem-solving.
