On October 24, the Math Team competed in the DUSO (Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange counties) competition for our Section. They faced against Pawling High School, Poughkeepsie High School, and Spackenkill High school with almost 70 students competing.

Team A consisting of Raymond Aye, Theo DeGuzman, Yungie Gong, Amanda Romero, and Albert Zhu started the year off with a bang and placed first. The team was only one point ahead after the individual questions round. But then during the final round, they secured the win by four points after they were the only team to correctly answer the relay question.

Team B consisting of Alex Giangrasso, Darren Horton, David McGrath, Kyle Shi, and Brian Zhu also performed admirably placing sixth.

Some highlights of the competition are Yungie Gong and Albert Zhu were two of only eight students to correctly answer five out of six questions during the competition. This was the highest individual score as no students scored points with the challenging sixth question. In addition, Raymond Aye, Theo DeGuzman, and Brian Zhu were three of the 15 students to score four out of six points during the competition. Lastly, David McGrath and Brian Zhu made their math team debut and greatly contributed to their teams’ success.

On December 5th Our Lady of Lourdes will host their third competition here at Lourdes.
