This event was sponsored by the Association of New York State Youth Bureaus.  The forum was an interactive leadership and educational seminar being offered to teens and Youth Bureau personnel from across New York State.  Participants were able to participate in teambuilding exercises, discussion groups and were encouraged to bring what they learned back to their communities. The Keynote speaker was the famous peace activist and “Free Hugs” guy, Ken Nwadike.  Before returning home they were able to meet with our State Senators and Assembly members.

According to Katie “It was a great opportunity to meet with other teens from all over the state. I also enjoyed being able to meet with our State officials and see the Capitol building in Albany.”

This past December, Katie participated in Dutchess County’s “Path to Promise” Youth Leadership Summit at Dutchess Community College. The event gave youth throughout Dutchess County the opportunity to review a draft of the County’s “Path to Promise,” a comprehensive plan to identify local community resources that youth need to be successful, to address any gaps in services or programs that may exist, and to shape the plan’s implementation.Left to right Sanjay Natesan, Katie Thorn, Assembly Member Kieran Michael Lalor who used to work ...Left to right Sanjay Natesan, Katie Thorn, Assembly Member Kieran Michael Lalor who used to work at Our Lady of Lourdes, Rachel Gifford, June Ellen Notaro and Audrey Kuhnle, Kieran Michaela Lalors intern.
