According to the 2020 National Merit® Scholarship Program, Theo is one of 15,000 semi-finalists across the country who were notified of their advancement to finalist status this week. Finalists are selected upon review of their abilities, skills, and accomplishments. He was named a semi-finalist in September 2019 and was responsible for submitting additional applications that include details on his leadership and extracurricular activities, academic records, school recommendations, and personal essays.

Lourdes Principal, Catherine Merryman remarks, “We are thrilled for Theo. He is a scholar and incredible role model for all that we strive to achieve each day here at Lourdes. Theo is a hard-working, well-rounded individual with great ambition, and we are incredibly proud of him.”

DeGuzman, a Poughkeepsie resident attended St. Martin de Porres School prior to Our Lady of Lourdes High School. He is an active member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society (La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica), Science Honor Society (Our Lady of Lourdes St. Albert the Great Chapter of the Science National Honors Society), Math Team, Wind Ensemble, AQMAI Ju-Jitsu, Pro-Life Club, Varsity Soccer and Varsity Tennis teams. Theo plans to study Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University in September 2020.
