According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), Theo is one of 7,600 winners chosen from a pool of 15,000 Finalists in the 2020 National Merit® Scholarship Program. In a press release dated today from NMSC, these “Merit Scholars” are “judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies.”  By the conclusion of the 2020 program this summer, these “Merit Scholars” will have received a combined total “worth more than $30 million in college scholarships.” 

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.  Scholarships “are underwritten by approximately 400 independent corporate and college sponsors that share NMSC’s goals of honoring scholastically talented youth and encouraging academic excellence at all levels of education.”

Theo, a Poughkeepsie resident attended St. Martin de Porres School prior to Our Lady of Lourdes High School. He is an active member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society (La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica), Science Honor Society (Our Lady of Lourdes St. Albert the Great Chapter of the Science National Honors Society), Math Team, Wind Ensemble, AQMAI Ju-Jitsu, Pro-Life Club, Varsity Soccer and Varsity Tennis teams. Theo plans to study Mechanical Engineering with a potential minor in Electrical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University in September 2020. 

Theo is the second merit scholar from OLL within the last several years with Andrew Lam winning in 2017.
