Mary plays a significant role in our salvation history. Scripture calls us to honor Mary the Mother of God, born without sin, the first disciple who used her own will to answer “yes” to God! Mary’s role in salvation was prophesied in Genesis 3:15, and when we need Her she definitely intercedes for us and for the whole world. After all, she is our Blessed Mother.
This afternoon during our school liturgy, Campus Minister, Mr. John Herles, and our school Chaplain, Fr. Michael Connelly, organized a May Crowning. This devotional to Mary is an important part of our Catholic identity. The crown made of flowers is symbolic of the humility and natural beauty illuminated by and through Mary’s life and motherhood to Christ. She was the perfect follower of Christ who is
“Son of the Most High; the Lord will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom, there will be no
end.” ~ Luke 1: 32-33 \
It follows therefore that we bestow on Mary the title Queen of Heaven.
Joyful Mother, full of gladness,
in your arms, your Lord was borne.
Mournful Mother, full of sadness,
all your heart with pain was torn.
Glorious Mother, now rewarded
with a crown at Jesus’ hand,
age to age your name recorded
shall be blest in every land.
