In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week in May, Senator Serino invited community members “to nominate a local teacher who has made a difference in the lives of their students and who has continued to go above and beyond, despite the obstacles being thrown their way throughout the COVID-19 pandemic”. According to Senator Serino, “Local educators were asked to step up in a big way this past year, having to navigate remote and hybrid learning, and adapting your classrooms to help keep our community safe and healthy. Educators had to find new ways to be creative and engaging and even had to take steps to ensure that the needs of our students were met. Reading through the nominations has been incredibly inspiring and it is clear that educators do so much more than teach our children–you serve as mentors, confidants and most importantly, you help our students grow to be the best people they can be.”

Mrs. Vilardo was nominated by Joedy Kievit whose son Mason was taught by Mrs. Vilardo.

A virtual celebration of all honored educators was held by Senator Serino on June 3, 2021.
