OLL Chaplain, Father Connolly celebrated Mass for the entire administration, faculty, and staff to begin the day. His message was a good reminder of how we all as disciples of Christ must nurture our students to follow the same path.

In their messages to faculty and staff, Mrs. Merryman and Mrs. Vilardo both stressed three “themes” for this school year:

Back to Basics
Getting back to basics is the simplest way to find calm in all the chaos.” ~ Unknown

According to Mrs. Vilardo, “Back to Basics will inspire introspective thinkers, confident orators and collaborative problem solvers through the daily pursuit of Wisdom and Truth. This is done through structured, academically challenging and well-organized classrooms with academic instruction that inspires intellectual curiosity.”

Let It Go
You don’t need strength to let go of something. What you really need is understanding.” ~ Guy Finley

“Let it Go and learn from the struggle”, states Mrs. Vilardo. “Let it lead us to higher ground - this is what our faith teaches us. We see each day as an opportunity to grow and practice virtue and forgiveness, to work for the common good, and hopefully to help build the kingdom of God on earth. As we start the year we remind ourselves that we are called to OLLHS - we see our place on the OLLHS team as a vocation, not a job.

Love Thy Neighbor
“And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”  ~Mark 12:31

“Those of us who work to fulfill the mission of OLLHS opt to choose daily practices of faith that help us to be fully human, and fully alive,” remarks Mrs. Merryman.  “This ability to try and maintain an attitude of the rational person knows that happiness is not determined by outside forces and events. It is rather a matter of attitudes, and these cannot be coerced by outside forces, which at most can be physically afflicting.

Thank you to Mrs. Merryman, Mrs. Vilardo, and Father Connolly for setting the tone for a “great year” ahead!
