Mary Gilgut (born Iorio) taught Mathematics at Our Lady of Lourdes High School for over fifteen years. She and her husband Thomas were devout Catholics and placed a high value on Catholic education. They were happily married for over thirty years when her life was abruptly cut short, struck by a car while jogging in Poughkeepsie. Thomas established this fund in her memory.
The fund awards two scholarships each year towards financing a Lourdes education, one to a girl and one to a boy, for $1,000 each. The selectees must have a propensity towards Mathematics, be of good moral character, and demonstrate financial need.
